Entries not meeting eligibility guidelines shall be withdrawn from consideration.   PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The San Francisco Arts Commsision is working with the San Francsico Municipal Transportation Agency to develop a public art program integrated into the design of the forthcoming Central Subway System. The new above-ground platform station at 4th and Brannan streets marks the transition between the T-Third Light Rail line and the beginning of the Central Subway. The San Francisco Arts Commission's goal is to commission a permanent durable outdoor artwork of the highest aesthetic quality for the 4th and Brannan Platform Station. More info... Bay Area Rapid Transit Request for Qualifications  DEADLINE: December 30, 2011 The San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART) has announced a Request for Qualifications for the new Warm Springs Station extension project. Art approaches include architecturally scaled art glass installations for the curtain wall and entry pavilion, and surface treatments for the concrete columns in the plaza. The project also includes a surface treatment for the concrete seating areas at the existing Fremont station. ELIGIBILITY: The competition is open to professional artists residing in the United States who have experience in producing architecturally scaled art glass or who use materials appropriate for surface treatments on the columns and seating areas. Applications will be accepted through CAFE under the name "San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District: Warm Springs/Fremont Stations."  Questions regarding the RFQ may be sent to arts@bartwsx.com   Call for Submissions: Mid-Market Art Project DEADLINE: December 27, 2011 (11 p.m. Pacific Standard Time) The Mid-Market Art Project (MMAP), in conjunction with the San Francisco Art Institute, is seeking artists to submit art project proposals to take place in the mid-market neighborhood of San Francisco in March 2012. Three chosen artists will display their work on site in the mid-market neighborhood, will be included in a post-project show in a San Francisco gallery, and will be featured in a printed project publication, as well as on the MMAP website. Projections on The Verizon Building during Occupy Wall Street Day Of Action

Artist Mark Read created a projection project during the most recent days of action with Occupy Wall Street. The work featured many of the slogans and chants used throughout the protests. It could be seen by many of the marchers as they went across the Brooklyn bridge.

New technologies

"There has never been a show like “World of Color,” the mega-scale, after-dark celebration of Disney storytelling.  “World of Color” brings animation to life with powerful fountains that become stars of the show as they create one of the world’s largest projected water screens.

The sweeping story and stunning effects are created with:

• Nearly 1,200 powerful and programmable fountains with heights ranging from 30 feet to 200 feet (50 feet higher than Mickey’s Fun Wheel). Each fountain has multiple points of control to direct the lighting, color intensity, water angle and height.
• One of the world’s largest projected water screens – a wall of water 380 feet wide by 50 feet high, for a projection surface of 19,000 square feet.
• Nearly 30 high-definition projectors – 14 of them submersible.
• Synchronized flame projections, lasers and special effects that will flood the senses.
• A soundtrack performed by more than 100 musicians.

 “World of Color” has been some five years in the making, beginning with brainstorming by show director Davison and his creative crew.  As the concept grew, the Disney team sought out new technologies and multi-media to support a vision in which water and light could dance, change character and move the audience, becoming, in effect, the “stars” of the show."
